Who knew that a year ago today would have changed our lives forever. Tom and I wanted to start a family and started our journey in the January of 2006. After a year of trying to get pregnant, I was diagnosed with PCOS and we had 4 failed clomid cycles. We then had to make a decision on what to do next. In the February of 2007 we decided to be a little more aggressive and try shots with IUI.
A year ago today we got the go ahead to try shots with an IUI. We made the choice to give this a try. We knew this was not a guarantee and it was a step in our treatment program. We wanted to start our family and knew all we could do was pray. Tom and I put this into God’s hands and knew he would take care of us. The next couple of weeks were very long, we went to the doctor every other day and he checked on our progress. After 2 weeks, the doctor said we were ready for our IUI. On March 13th 2007 we then took another step in our program. We had the IUI. Everything at this time was out of our hands and all we could do was pray and wait. The next 2 weeks were the longest 2 weeks of our lives.
I woke up early Monday morning, the 26th of March, I was very nervous. Today would be the day we found out if we were pregnant or not. I remember going in for my blood work, no stranger to this, I had blood taken every other day at the beginning of this process. I went back to work and waited, I checked my phone every 5 minutes waiting for a call from my nurse. She finally called and told me the news. My results were in and they were positive. We were going to have a baby. I couldn’t believe it. We got pregnant on the first try which the doctor later told us was a 17 percent shot.
We were so thankful and so excited; the next 9 months were going to be wonderful. We spent the next 9 months wondering what the baby would look like and wondered what the baby would be. A mini Tom or a mini Monica.
As many of you know, it was really only 8 months of waiting and then the last 4 months have been a life time in itself.
Over the course of the last year, we have so much to be thankful for. We have 2 very loving sets of parents, 2 wonderful sisters and a whole bunch of family and friends that are very dear to our hearts. We are very blessed and have so much to look forward to.
I know that the next year will be filled with so many new and exciting things. It will be another journey. Here is to a safe move, a new job and a great start in a new city.

Katie Lynn was baptized on February 10th, 2008. The church service was amazing and Katie Lynn acted so perfect. She wore a special gown that has been passed down through Tom’s family. Tom’s mom, uncle, sister, himself and niece have all been baptized in this gown. It is a family heirloom and we were so excited that she did not throw up on it.Thank you to all our family and friends who attended the service.
This was such a special day for Katie Lynn and it meant so much to us that you all were there to share in her special day.
Here are some photos:

I can’t believe it is already February and I can’t believe that Katie Lynn is 3 months old. She is doing so well and has come so far. She is such a good baby. Her personality is really showing through and she is looking around all the time.
Katie Lynn is grabbing things and starting to really focus on objects in front of her. Her smiles are becoming more and more but as soon as I pull the camera out, she stops smiling. For example, I had the camera out trying to get her to smile. She wouldn’t so I put it down and guess what, she started smiling and I grabbed it super fast and as soon as I got it turned on, sure enough, no more smile. She is so stubborn but we already knew that. As Tom would say, just like her mommy.
We are enjoying every minute with her and are so excited about things to come. For now, we leave you with a 3 month photo.
She is just so stinkin’ cute…and I know you will agree.

Monica’s Birthday-
I turned 26 on the 26th of January, my golden birthday. I had such a wonderful birthday. We started the weekend with a family celebration on Friday night. Tom got me a beautiful garnet necklace and Katie Lynn got me a willow tree memory box. I loved them both! Then my wonderful husband and daughter took me out to diner at On the Border. I love my birthday because we get to go to a Mexican restaurant!! I had such a good night.
Then to celebrate on Saturday we first went to Tre’s birthday party, he is my birthday buddy. Then we traveled over to the Texas Tech basketball game. Such a busy day, we finally ended the night at the house. We had friends over to celebrate the occasion and had some cake and ice cream.
I had such a wonderful birthday weekend. I am so blessed with so many good friends and my family is wonderful. Thank you to everyone for all the birthday wishes and birthday gifts.

Walk, Walk, Walk…
The weather is finally getting nice enough that we can go outside and walk around the neighborhood. We got a carrier for Katie Lynn and she loves it! We enjoy our family walks at night.

Another play date!
Katie Lynn loves her play dates. We finally got all three babies together! The babies had such a good time; they slept, had a snack and then played on the floor together. They are just so cute!! I also enjoy Katie Lynn’s play dates; it is nice to catch up with my friends.

Smile…or kind of.
Yes, we are still trying to catch a smile. Katie Lynn has been smiling for over a month and sure enough, as soon as the camera comes out, her smile disappears. We will keep trying.
